This was taken at a bookstore front in Amsterdam. I believe the world has spoken, America has spoken, and my idealistic heart is so proud. I came home from class last night and sat in front of the tv, watching and waiting. When they announced he had enough electoral votes to take the White House, I shocked myself by bursting into tears. The timing of this class has been crucial for me because I believe he can help with our questions of "okay, we know there is a problem but how the heck do we fix it?" He is realistic yet hopeful, commanding yet humble, and I believe he stood in front of thousands in Grant Park as an African American man who will help with public education reform, economic segregation, and making healthcare affordable.

The New York Times has beautiful slide shows of polling places, the celebration parties, Jesse Jackson crying, and the crowds around the world rejoicing in our victory. i am SO happy!!!

i wonder what william julius wilson would say?
